Plymouth is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and is located on Historic Highway 49 just south of Placerville. Plymouth is in the heart of the Gold Country. When you visit Plymouth you can enjoy our beautiful surroundings while visiting the many wineries in the adjacent Shenandoah Valley as well as other places of historical interest.
The City of Plymouth started as a mining camp in approximately 1852. Plymouth proper began with quartz mining when settled early by Green Aden & others hard rock miners. The town was named Plymouth, probably after the nearby Plymouth mine.
